Dan Dovideo

Born and raised in Fairport NY, Dan started playing piano at age 10 and soon added electric keyboards and Hammond B3 organ to his portfolio. He is a graduate of Nazareth University in Rochester NY, and Dominican University in Florence, Italy, where he majored in music theory, piano and composition.

Dan’s earliest playing style was shaped by picking out Beatles, Rolling Stones and Doors songs on the piano. Later influences included jazz and fusion keyboardists such as Bill Evans, Steely Dan and Chick Corea, among others. In addition to his work with Mystic Circus as keyboardist and arranger, Dan maintains an extensive solo piano repertoire ranging from George Gershwin to Dave Brubeck, and plays frequently at local jazz clubs and piano bars.

Lanny James

Lanny James

Born into a household where music was the very air they breathed, Lanny James was destined for a life behind the kit. His father, a seasoned music engineer, and his mother, a classically trained pianist holding a doctorate in performance and literature, created an environment where rhythm and melody were as natural as conversation. It was no surprise that by age five he was turning every surface in the house into a percussion instrument, a habit his parents wisely channeled by presenting him with a Ringo Starr Ludwig drum set at age ten — and the rest, as they say, is history.

His musical education was drawn from the richest well in American music. Deeply influenced by the legendary drummers who shaped everything from Motown to progressive rock and jazz, he developed a playing style that is as versatile as it is soulful, rooted in the traditions of the early architects of rock and roll. That foundation translated quickly into professional opportunity — by age fourteen he was already performing professionally, and before long he was touring New York and Canada with two bands — Voices, and Dark Side of the Moon, a Pink Floyd tribute band that brought the legendary catalog of one of rock’s most celebrated groups to audiences across the region, experiences that shaped him into the complete musician he is today.

Off the stage, Lanny James owns and operates ice cream and açaí bowl businesses that bring a little sweetness to his community. But at the end of the day what feeds his soul most is doing exactly what good musicians do, perform. Lanny now provides the drive and complex rhythms as fuel for Mystic Circus.

Mark Saltelli

Mark

Mark’s passion for drumming came at the age of eight, inspired by a family of professional musicians. His formal study of music and percussion started in the fourth grade and continued through High school performing in concert bands, as well as jazz, dance, and orchestral groups.

A self-proclaimed progressive rock drummer, Mark developed great inspiration from his grandfather who reinforced the importance of performing a diverse array of musical genres and styles. As Mark continued to develop his performance style, he had the opportunity to share the stage with recoding stars, Peter Frampton, April Wine, REO Speedwagon and Otis Day and the Nights. He also toured across New York State as a founding member of Top Secret.

Upon his recent retirement as a GE executive, he is focusing his energy and passion back on performing with the Mystic Circus, one of the area’s top entertainment groups playing classic rock, contemporary country, and vintage Motown to audiences across Upstate New York.

Mark’s personality, talent, and experience are critical assets to help boost the group to the next level of quality and excitement.

Steve Wheeler

Born in Syracuse, Steve now hails from Fairport, New York. Steve’s introduction to the joy of music came at the age of seven when he was immersed in the singing of Broadway Musicals by his mother. This led to an affinity for the guitar. He also tried his hand at Bass, drums and keyboard but he quickly identified the guitar as his favorite.

His guitar skills became more pronounced when he started his first band, “The Confederate Elicitation of Your Imagination.” He later played with Wolfe J. Flywheel, Hott Sand, Over Easy, Rock-it Science which played for 25 years and his most recent band, The Steve Wayne Band. Steve has performed all over the Northeastern United States and has opened for several national touring acts.

Steve’s drive to become a successful professional guitarist came from within and was influenced by several musical greats such as Santana, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Dickie Betts,  Al Dimeola, BB King and Steely Dan to name a few.

Today, Steve is an active singer, song writer, and recording engineer. He currently has two albums streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Many of the songs were written by Steve and he also did the recording, mixing, and mastering.

As a member of Mystic Circus, Steve provides unique guitar inflections, engaging lead vocals, and an array of complex harmonies to the group’s Classic Rock and Country repertoire.
